David Wylie
Brand Strategist / Writer
David Wylie is a branding strategist with more than three decades of experience in design, advertising, and brand management.
He began his advertising career as Associate Creative Director at Palmer Jarvis Edmonton in the mid-1980s. There, he got his first experience being a branding strategist on global brands and began to understand the value of good brand management for clients such as McDonald’s Restaurants and Westin Hotels.
From there, he co-founded Wylie Roberts Communications in Calgary in 1990. After accumulating an impressive list of clients including Shell Oil, Telus, Fording Coal, CNCP Telecommunications and Canada Safeway, he sold the company to BBDO where David became Associate Creative Director.
In 1997, David moved to Vancouver to become VP Creative Director for Western Canada at Maclaren McCann and was responsible for brand stewardship for General Motors, Cathay Pacific Airways, Western Canada Lotteries, BC Women’s Hospital and Engage Energy. David helped the Vancouver office grow their business by nearly threefold in three years.
Since leaving MacLaren McCann, David has operated Coercion, a branding and advertising firm in Vancouver. Major clients have included Intracorp, Bosa Properties, The Salient Group, Mosaic Homes, Vancouver Recital Society, BC Chamber of Commerce and Jove Pictures.
David holds an undergraduate degree with a dual major in English and Psychology, and a diploma in Visual Communications.
